Wirral Egg Run 2008
Sunday, 16 March 2008

The Wirral Egg Run 2008 was fantastically well attended and was full of the usual excitement and good spirits, with plenty of colourful costumes and well loved bikes.

This years Wirral Egg Run was dedicated to Simon Owen, a prominent figure in restoring the annual event to official status.

Simon was tragically killed when his motorcycle collided with a tractor while he was on a holiday with his family in Cumbria in July 2007.

2008's Egg Run is in aid of the Jellybean Kids Appeal for young patients of Arrowe Park hospital, and will fund new equipment for children with special needs.

2007 saw over £15,000 raised and around 4,000 riders. This year unofficial figures place attendance at well over 7,000 bikes, so hopes are high for a record total in donations.

The Egg Run started at Coastal Drive, New Brighton and was underway just after 11am. Riders followed a route through Hoylake, West Kirby, Caldy and Heswall and streamed into Clatterbridge hospital to drop off donations of eggs and cash.
