WirralWide caught up with Josh at a recent Birthday Party bash, where he entertained with a full band. We took the opportunity to quiz him about his adventure...
Why did you decide to apply for X-Factor?
Well firstly I sent off the application form for last years competition, but unfortunately it never got to them. But this year they sent me a letter, saying that there was an audition in Manchester, and I could go audition, so I decided to go to the audition. I think someone else put me up for it though.
What did you sing at each audition and how did you decide what to sing?
I sang "End of heartache" by the band Killswitch Engage. I sang something I enjoy rather than something they might have expected.
What were the auditions like, was it what you expected?
The Auditions were, well the day was pretty crazy. I got there around 11am and left about 8pm! There were a lot of people to be seen. I really didn’t think I was going to get through, but somehow I ended up getting through - the feeling was just great! It wasn’t what I expected though, I was expecting some place a little warmer but…
Did you think you'd get as far as you did?
I had no idea I would make it to the 4th round - luckily I did! Unfortunately I didn’t make it through again, but the judges doubted me due to my style of singing, and my appearance. I wasn’t singing pop either... I guess no-one wants to hear metal on national TV!
What were the judges like at the final audition and what did they say to you?
The Judges said I sounded like Chad Kroeger from Nickelback, looked like death, and was drunk... which I cleraly wasn't. Haha! But I thought that was funny.
Would you apply for anything similar again?
I definitely would not. The whole competition was just the biggest and fakest thing, like ever! It was so low, so sad. I actually feel kind of sick in taking part in it. Your not judged on how good you are, but what you look like, and if you’re the sort of person who can entertain people, and if your hot for TV. I could go on all day, but X-factor is just, as commercial as anything else on TV. AKA Pop.
Tell us a bit about your current band and your musical plans for the future...
Right now I'm getting together with friends and playing one-off shows, but I'm trying to find something permanent. Hopefully I will, and everything will fall in to place. Nothing's more fun than playing a bit of Rock'n'Roll!
